For my project, I am to create an audio track where the theme is something along the lines of ambiance, public transit, city, day-to-day, comfortable, and a specific location. Examples could be a laundromat, a bus station, a train, or a hallway at a school. It doesn't have to be a realistic location and might include sounds from all of these places, but the overall sound will be sleepy, slow, or like a background.
Once I have all the audio files, I listen well to each clip and categorize them based on their mood, tempo, and tone. This will help me to determine the overall vibe of the audio track and how the clips should be arranged to tell a story.
Once I import them all into Audition, I can adjust the volumes so that no clips overpower each other unintentionally. I'll establish the background of the location with 4-5 sounds that will be repeated or extended for the full 4:33. Next I'll introduce sounds that will "pass through the location" this might be a character or a vehicle or an animal. I aim for these to not be too distracting, and to fit into the track. I can make the location seem spacious by adding an echo or reverb to these sounds.
The first step is to establish a consistent tempo track. This will help to ensure that all the clips blend together smoothly. Next, I arrange the clips in a way that tells a story or creates a specific mood. With subtlety, a slower clip could be used to introduce the track and set the mood, while faster clips could be used to create a sense of excitement.
